duplicate layer and mask
As NeoLokie mentioned, another possibility, though hardly one click but pretty easy and very powerful, is the use of duplicate layers and masks. Make two layers of the same picture and apply the style to the top one. Then put a mask on the top layer, hold down the ALT key and click on the mask (little white square to the right of the layer fingernail. You can color the mask black to hide the effect on the top layer and let the lower unaffected layer show through. Remember that white on the masking layer gives you the actual picture on that layer. Black hides that top picture and lets the next layer show through. Gray is semitransparant. You can apply gradients to make smooth transitions. You can use the Marquee tools to select specific areas. If you select the picture thumbnail so that it shows and then select the mask you can color in the mask with a painting tool but will see the affect on the combined image so you can see the effects as you go. Pretty powerful stuff. This is probably the way you want to go (if you aren't already)
Hope that this helps.
