I'm new to photoshop

Hi everybody, As I was searching for photoshop tutorials I came across this forum. Seems very informative and very helpful. I have been playing these online games and on their forums I always see people with nice signatures. I was trying to create..I pull a nice image from google and i edit everything...It was looking nice but the one problem i was having was resizing the picture. How do I resize that image to a signature banner size? i think most people use like 320x100. Everytime i go to help>resize image i cannot. i change the width and it also changes the height...
can someone help me out? I really want to make my own sigs...
I was looking through this forum and i saw someone providing free sig backgrounds so i saved it onto my computer and made myself one ^^ the sig i have in my signature is my first posted sign =p..too bad it doesn't have any pictures..only my name is japanese ^^.
also on this person's sig (http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/5889/tehwiz3gm.jpg) notice on the his name (aznwiz) it has like a rectangular shading thing..does anybody know how to do that? if so can you teach it to me ?
thanks..but most importantly i need to know how to resize my image to banner size ^^
PS>> what do you guys think about my signature ?? (it's my first time posting)

look in the menu bar at the top of photoshop image/image size and set it to what you want.
that rectangular thing, if its the bit I'm thinking of is probably just a rectangular selection filled with colour and had the opacity dropped or a different blending mode. Probably the latter actually. Tequila may be affecting my judgement though

When you open your image in ps, you see that bar right above the image, which displays the image name @ whatever % RGB or Index.. I right click on that and a bos should pop up which is the image size.. make sure the constrant proportions is checked and then size it to whatever.. i think thats what your looking for and by the way your sig is nice, except for (my own opinion) that white area at the top right..

Kanji

Hi, do you know what those kanji mean ?
I study Japanese, so i like the azian touch you added !
I just began so i only know a few kanji (wich are not so complicated :P)
anyway to give you some comment on the sign. it looks nice, but i would ade some color tough but not much, maybe one. (for example : red on the kanji)
or put the whole thing in duo tone (mode==> duotone; then chose red and black and play with the curves untill you are satisfied) duotone is much less expensive if you gonna print it to make fyers and such. but can look very neat... good luck on the photoshopping, it's an intresting hobby !
