newbie question...

if i were to lets say get a pic from the internet (which is lets say 70KB) .. open it in photoshop, not even touching anything on there.. and resaving it.. it will save at 200kb or somthin. why is that? how do i drop file size in photoshop without decreasing quality of pic?

You're probably resaving the pic at the highest quality when the pic itself isn't high quality when you downloaded it... I reccomend saving it at a quality of 8-10. See if that makes a difference.

its kinda weird tho.. sometimes the pic will look flawless (the one i got from the net).. and if i were to save it to 8 lets say.. u can visibly see some minor deterioration from the pic.. and even after all of that.. the pic is still twice as big as its original once saved. is there any other settings/options other than the 1-12 scale?

If you are using Imageready, do make sure it doesn't decide to add all sorts of extra metadata, such as ICC profiles, etc - they can really add bloat. Oh, and try to save in the same format as the original - a selective-color gif can be really small, but saved as a JPEG, it can get much bigger!

R u sure u didnt save the picture in .psd format.... cause it's always much bigger than the normal pic size..... 2 weeks ago i had a pic with resolution about 2300x1700 or something like this ... and in photoshop format it was nearly 50mB.... Hmmmm the quality and the bits in px.... the picture can be 8bit but 16bit colors too.... so look at this....

Yeah, that's probably it. Even Photoshop adds a bit of metadata and, by default, any file in the PSD format is saved at the highest possible quality, although there IS a slight increase in size even for other formats.
