how to repeat patterns?

I'd like to make patterns like on (real) wallpaper or fabric.
I know there are programs like Symmetry Works but do we have to buy something like this to make these repeats?

Thanks.

Not at all! We have two tutorials on texturing, and repeating tiles. Here's where you need to go:

Seamless Textures - http://www.biorust.com/tutorials/detail/18/en/
The Pattern Maker - http://www.biorust.com/tutorials/detail/67/en/

Hi, Thanks for the links. I've read those already and practiced with patternmaker (and even just "define pattern"). But how can I line up the edges if something goes over the side?

for example: (I know it's girly but it's an example):
Poppy Single

Paisley

The best way is to use the offset filter to move the edges towards the center of the texture. Then its all down to manual adjustment i'm afraid - there is no automatic way to make the edges vanish flawlessly.

that's really very sad! ;o)
I'll give it a try a bit later on & see what happens. I'm thinking I'll have to use a grid & really line up the vines well....
thanks!

If you like grids and guides, you might want to try MoodsR4Cattle's seamless texture tutorial I uploaded yesterday! You can find it over at http://www.biorust.com/tutorials/detail/160/en/
