Question Speckled gradients?

I've been fooling around with PS and I must have checked something, although I don't now know what it was. In any case, it has resulted in all my new images looking speckled when I use the gradient tool! Attached is a simple example of what I mean. What did I do and how do I undo it?

Looks like either a dissolved gradient or you added white noise, although may attempts to recreate the effect on my part failed.

If it's "white noise" what do I do to reverse it? I understand that PS "remembers" your last settings, so now my biggest problem is that any new image I try to create will end up with gradients being speckled like this, unless I can find some way of reversing my blunder...

Ok! Stupid nOOb here again. Figured it out. There's this little button in the toolbar that says Mode. I had "dissolved" selected.

Thanks for bearing with me!
