A dilemma..

Ok, I have Photoshop CS, Now Ive been following some tutorials these past few days just to mess around and get back into the swing of graphic designing since ive been MIA with graphics. Now, I follow the directions correctly, some ive done more than twice, I dont get the same product as it looks on tut. Im wondering if the tut im following was designed for a specific Photoshop version. Is that possible where if I use PS CS but the tut was made in like PS v7 or something like that.. could that be the problem or what? Because I know im following the tut correctly. I know how to follow directions.. could that be the problem or what?

Is your version similar to the tutorial? Because some filters in PS are based one psuedo-random generations, or their settings may be slightly different. You should rarely end up with a carbon copy of the tutorial but come do end up like that.

Or if you could link the tutorial and example it would be easier to see what you mean.

The first one isn't terrible, I would suggest trying to mess with the belnding options on your layers to get a glassier effect. Also try different positions of the ellipses as they may change the effect as well. This one seems like the author messed around with some settings after the tuorial to get that effect.

I would check the settings on the blending options, especially the satin on the orb. It looks as if the size of the orb you are using is a bit off for the settings the author used. Since he didn't specify a size, you are going to have to try and mess with the satin to get the exact effect.

On the third one I would maybe try repeating the "Render Clouds" until you get on with a lot of contrast. It seems to rely on a lot of contrast and it is possible that the one you used didn't have the required amount.

Mainly just try to continue to tweek your end results, you may find something that you like better than how it was supposed to turn out.

Almost all of my finished work is on my site, but mainly I work in Photoshop/C4D. I've done some video in Premiere (AMVs and one full movie). Pretty much all of my stuff are just things I think up, messing around with programs.

And on that last one, that is definately something that requires adjusting, because the techniques aren't just adding blending options and filters. Just keep working on stuff, and you'll get it.

Perhaps your image was too small in the first one to get the full effect. I've attatched what I got when I followed the directions exactly. Started with a 750x750 image and drew an estimate 500 pixel circle.

Downsized the pic for size reasons. (I'm on dial-up right now.)

I haven't even looked at the others -- takes too long for me to load them lol. Good luck.

I usually use photoshop for photo editing. A little bit of signatures, or other small images and a whole heap of time just screwing around. I use it for web designs too (if I could actually complete one )

in photoshop what is the best filter or way to do a 3d effect? I know they have it in PS 7 which I have on another computer but that comp is totally screwed, but they dont have the filter on CS. Which makes me think.. I should go through my other comp and get brushes and everything else, artwork and stuff.. yay. ill do it later.

The 3D render from Photoshop 7 was taken out of the default install in either CS or CS2. Can't remember. But I believe that it is supposed to be on the Photoshop CD in a folder named plugins or somethign like that. I like to use the burn and dodge tool a lot. They give enormous amounts of control on lighting and shading and are very versatile in bringing things to life.
