How to create your own patterns..

So ive downloaded some patterns and have put a satin to change the color somewhat but havent found what im exactly looking for.. so I want to know how I can create my own.. is it as easy as making your own brushes?

Do you want to create a pattern from scratch or do you wish to define a design you have already into a pattern so that it can be used just like any other default Photoshop pattern?

design a pattern from scratch.. actually maybe both.. but more of doing it from scratch so its orginal..

Just design the pattern that you want and go to Edit -> Define Pattern... Pretty self explanitory from there.

you can take it from any type or picture or anything like that right? I figured it was define pattern but i always only say define brush.. thanks

Yea, a pattern can be any image (As far as I know).

There's also a gimmick known as the Pattern Maker. You can find it under the Filters tab. It can be used to edit the pattern you are about to use just the way you want it. It's pretty easy to use and you'll know what to do once you fiddle around with it a bit.

thanks ill take a look at it.. you cant change original patterns that are already on there can you? like change the background of the color or something..? to make majority of the background one color? probably not coz hello! that would be altering someone elses work.. duh! so ill just make my own.. thanks!!
