Free Screen Recorder?

Does anyone know where i can get a free screen recorder, for the likes of making a video/flash photoshop tutorial, or recording myself playing a game?

I've never heard of a free one. The only one I've ever heard of was Cinmedia (I think) and I believe it was rather pricey. If you find one, let us know

There are a few, but none available as freeware to my knowledge! Here's some of the commercial ones:

Camtasia - http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp
C & P - http://www.captureandpresent.com/
Instant Demo - http://www.instant-demo.com/

Okay, I think you need to sit down and think about this. Do you actually NEED a real-time video recording?, I think you could do very well with something called a photo-story. It is basically a sequence of images in which you can control the timing, set animations, AND narrate, which makes it distinct from a slideshow. If this serves your purpose, get Microsoft Photo Story 3. It's freeware and very user-friendly. It's available at http://snipurl.com/e0cx.

To make screen-captures (stills), a freeware utility, Grabber2k, is available. You can easily set it to capture only certain areas of the screen, or at specific intervals, and more. I'm not sure where the link is, but you can do a Google search to find it easily.
Good luck!

He means a program to capture a process into a flash file like this video:
http://www.crimemachine.com/Tuts/Fla...crack-wep.html
BTW, that's how easy it is to crack your measly little wep protected wireless access points... enjoy

Definately offtopic but it did show what he may need it for -- except he could do graphic photoshop tutorials.

It really is THAT easy. Just need about 30 minutes My fastest has been about 16 minutes for 64 bit WEP encryption.

To record game demos, download Fraps. The unregistered version allows you to capture 30 seconds of video at a time, for any number of times.

You beat me to it Heruka! A m8 of mine recommended FRAPS for this sort of thing - he uses it to record gaming machinima movies! Seems pretty nifty!

He uses Unreal Tournament 2004. Its pretty basic stuff, but you can do some pretty funky movies if you add a voiceover or two!

Ahhhh. Well, that makes sense I suppose. It's gotta take a bit of effort to run a game AND encode/record video at the same time. Maybe a dual-core processor will help in this regard?

As of now, dual-core processors utilize their second core only on multi-threaded applications. I guess it depends on how they made the game as well as how Fraps was designed.
By the way, did any of you see the Unreal 3 demo artwork? The level of detail on it blew me over completely! I wonder what it would be like, making machinima on the U3 engine... O_O
