I could use some help

I have a book cover that an artist has designed for his book and the publisher needs it in PDF format. I've worked with publishers in the past, but they all used Photoshop, so I have never run into this particular problem before.....maybe one of you guys can help me. When I save to PDF, the image is flattened and I lose all my blending options on the text and graphics. The example on the left is the way it should look and the example on the right is the way it prints to PDF. Can anybody give me some idea how to fix this? (Don't comment on the cover itself....it is the writer's design and I have no control over that.)

I know exactly what you mean here Lexiblue - I've had similar problems with creative projects and Photoshop in the past. My advice is to take a two step approach to this - merge all the layers in the image and THEN save it as a PDF. If you still lose detail when flattening, you can always form a selection around your entire image, then Edit > Copy Merged, pop it in a new file, and then save it as PDF. You can simply go back a few steps in your document history to undo all the layer merging and keep the original PSD for later.

Its not an all-in-one approach, and its fiddly... but it works!

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Unfortunately, The reason that there's different types of image editing formats (ie: jpeg, tiff, pdf, targ etc.) is because they work different for different effects. I hope Man1c M0g's suggestion works for you. If it doesn't, maybe you might show the publisher your 2 pictures or the cover and turn him/her on to Photoshop. Just a thought.
