How to remove acne and other blemishes

I was just wondering if someone could tell me the best tool or tools to use to remove acne and other blemishes from photos. Or if they know of a good tutorial I would be very grateful if they could direct me to it. Id just like to know basically how to take a section of nearby skin and apply to the area where the acne and blemishes are, so my photos turn out a little better. Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend using the clone stamp too - its designed for such uses after all.

I REALLY should write a tutorial on using that tool soonish....

Yep the Clone Stamp tool is what I would use but the healing brush is pretty good at removing blemishes too.

D. Craig Flory posted this at Adobe Forums today addressing the same subject:
(I have not tried this. I don't face this problem much in wildlife photography....a bird having a bad feather day just makes the pic more interesting. Funny how that usually doesn't really hold true for pics of people. )

... retouch on the green channel only. Open your image. Double click to make it layer zero & then dupe the layer. Now go to the channels palette and turn off the red & blue channels. Use the clone tool at 20% on lighten. Once you have it the way you want it, click Layer > Add Layer Mask > Hide All. Select the brush tool with white as the foreground color. "Paint" back the retouching you did at about 20 to 30% opacity. By doing it this way you can control the contours of the face and not make it look to flat.

I hope this helps.

Lightbulb Let's see it!!

In photoshop there are a ton of ways to do most everything. In this case all the above are pointing you in the right direction but, it is hard to tell what will be the best solution in this case.

Here is my suggestion. Post the photo you are working on so that we can see the extent of the problem. This also allows us to work on it and post our results with a step by step discription of the process. That way we all learn.

I would love that as well, I'm having issues with getting rid of blemishes, too.

Yeah, the Healing Brush can avoid the requirement of post-mortem blurring and smudging. It automatically calculates colour values before retouching. When you think about it, a small blemish on the skin can be hidden easier if the repair job blends in perfectly. You run the risk of screwing it up if you are unwary while using the Clone Stamp.
