The stars are just a noise filter right? Never, Ever make stars like that! Use greg martin's make a realistic star field tutorial. I don't like those smears of colour either, they just dont have enough depth and look very flat. Also saturn has huge rings they should be much bigger. For more ideas take a look at greg martin or gary tonge's site, they both produce spectacular space art.

It is good for a first atempt. Keep on trying you may wish the 'capturing heaven' article from greg martin's site it gives some nice pointers and teaches you about nebulae and other cool stuff.

yeah well i changed the planet saturn to mars since the moon and mars are so common to our explorartion. That star tut is pretty well done and i like it the hard part was choosing what brushes to use :P

The stars are much better but be careful try not to use the smudge tool too much. In the erasing stage use a nice hard brush with crisp edges and on 70-60% opacity. Then go in and clone using the same sort of brush.

The nebulae things are looking nice as well now you've spent some more time on them.

I dont know much about this kind of design work but from what i see the smudged areas look way to free handish. LOL they just seem really random inbetween star clusters. very noticeable. If you can get it to flow more through those areas you would like faded where stars would look farther away try a different stroke pattern etc. However that just really would take a steady hand and thats comes with time. I dont know if you gathered anything out of this ramble but that is what i can see. Very good start though i like the idea alot.

Very nice! How'd you do the nebulas? They look amazing!

However, the edges of the gases around the nebulas don't blend too well :/.

the nebulas where with a random shape and guassian to give it a blur effect then. Then with a bit of brushing and all the right ingrediants :P to make it look real i would say
