Question Need help with template and php includes

Hello

I am wondering if someone could take a quick look at my template I designed in photoshop and see if I sliced it ok and if it would be possible to break it up into a few php inlucdes...header.php, footer.php, sidebar-left.php, sidebar-right.php, news.php and content.php. This isnt a database driven design. I would like to paste text and thumbnail graphics in the main section (slice # 29) and text only in the slice above that (slice # 14 - site news section). All other images are static... both sidebars, the header graphic and footer info and would not need to change. This is my first time using photoshop to design a webpage and it is a bit confusing because I am used to using IBM Websphere homepage builder to do this. I sliced the design as shown and saved it for the web. It created a html file and the folder for the images. I would change the html files to .php files manually and break up the code to have the seperate includes.

http://www.n9nu.net/test/n9nu.psd - complete source file from photoshop

Thanks

Tim

You've done a good initial job of slicing up your images. You should now create a separate table with header, left sidebar, middle, right sidebar, and bottom and then paste selective areas of the design into it. That will allow you to break Imageready's annoying habit of making the whole design relative to the individual alices (and stopping you making the design expandable downwards). Once you have done that you will find it much easier to tile images to make them further expandable (as per my Imageready tut), etc.

Let us know how you get along!

ok. A few more questions

Ok I think I understand what your saying. I need to create a new template from scratch, but only include the selected php include in each one. So i would make 6 seperate templates? One for the header, one with the right sidebar, one with the left, the footer, the news section and the main window (content) section. Am I understanding this correctly?

Tim

P.S. I could not find your tut on ImageReady. That would be something I should go though as well

Well, you CAN do it that way, or you can just build one template up and leave the center blank for PHP included content. Its all rather hard to explain, so try looking at a template of mine over at http://biorust.com/images/gallery/te...altemplate.zip for a practical example.

Oh, and the tutorial I made on Imageready is over at http://biorust.com/index.php?page=tu...etail&tutid=23
