I drew this picture for a logo and...

I want to isolate the guy and the snake so I can edit them further. So I want to keep just the black lines and I want the area within the lines to be white. I already tinkered about with the extract option but I didn't like the outcome...
Any ideas/help on this one?

Check the attachment for the drawing.

A quick Desaturation followed by a levels adjustment will get you something like the attached picture. It should be easy to work with then.

edit: I should add that your best bet for a logo is to import the drawing into Illustrator and use that to create a nice vector logo. You could also redraw the logo in Photoshop using it's vector tools to get a decent looking version, but just cleaning it up is going to get you crappy results. You are going to have to redo it to get a nice looking version.

Ok I was going for the cleaning up plan but as you aleady pointed out that's not the real way to go. Could you explain how to turn this thing into a decent logo version with the use of vectors? I'm a total newcomer to this I should add...
I'd appreciate it A LOT if you would help me out here.

There's no quick and easy way to explain how to use vector tools. Some advice:

You can use the Pen tool in Photoshop to create either a path or a shape layer of just the lines.

Do a search for "Photoshop pen tool tutorial" (w/o the quotes) on google, and you will get a ton of good hits. BTW, a really good one can be found at http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorial/pen/ . Work through those and practice, practice, practice. The pen tool is NOT EASY, and getting good at it will not happen overnight.

There are actions that will turn the raster image that you have into a vector path, but none of them will get the quality that doing it manually will.

Sorry, that's about all the time I have to really help you out here.

I think I'll manage to crack this one with the help of this tutorial:

Succes! With the pen-tool I pulled it off. Here's what I came up with (attachment).

Very nice job on your first experience with the pen tool! Now you just need to clean it up a bit, and add some varying line widths, and you are good to go with a really nice logo!

I agree with jonbalza - its a great attempt for your first pen-outlining! How's it coming along now anyway - got it coloured yet?

The logo is getting printed on T-shirts and the guy I made it for wanted something "basic, rough and appropriate" (he's a dutch freefighter). When I showed him the logo's I came up with he went out of his mind. Yea that glad hehe! So I decided to leave it like this and just add some text.
These are the logo's I came up with:

BTW: we're going for either the 4th or 5th logo.
