Well, I have always thought that a forum signature should be no different from a real life signature - in other words it should represent you in some way. It's very easy to create the standard sort of sig that you see everywhere. You know the kind of thing: a character copied from some manga cartoon or computer game, a grunge-by-numbers background and a fancy font with a pre-made layer style applied - but what does that actually say about you? (Other than that you can copy other people's work and follow a tutorial or two.)

The sigs I use here (and I tend to change them when I get bored with them, although I'm planning to eventually create a "rotating sig" like Bub's) consist of two elements: one of my own photographs and a quotation that expresses an idea that I identify with.
So my advice would be: use your own work as far as possible, and make it relevant to your personality.

PS: I'm wondering if this thread should be moved to General Discussions now - just for neatness's sake.
