The only way the technology can work 'automatically' is if there is a gps receiver built into the camera.
As for recording the 'exact' location, GPS is accurate to within 300m unless it is constantly receiving data from the satellite over time... then they can get down to 10m.
I assume the cameras will also have to have a magnetic compasses to be able to dertermine the direction the lens is pointed.
I am also sure that these will all be 'optional' and can be turned on or off at will.
I've heard this called Geo-Tagging before... interesting idea really...
