I think I've finally saved up enough to buy my first DSLR, a year after I seriously got into photography. I think i'm going to settle on Nikon as I feel they've really stolen the show from Canon with the D300 and D3, and their lenses make much more sense in terms of pricing and focal lengths. Also, Nikon has an excellent reputation for supporting thier lens system - I am told a lens made over 40 years ago will work with a brand new Nikon body. I've got enough to purchase a new D300 and was wondering what a good starter lens would be to get - the Nikkor 18-200 VR is the hot favourite at the moment and from what I've heard it's great in terms of build and image quality. I Think I'll then buy a 50mm f/1.4, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
