I suspect you are in the later category of unleash's post...
If so, it may not be a matter of NERO or any other software used to burn the images but rather a case of drive compatibility.
The standard now for CD-ROM's is CD-R but there were times when CD+R and CD+/-R were widely available.
It is possible that either A. The CD-Roms were burned on an older drive that is not compatible with -R readers (common on most systems now) or B. Your drive is not a -R drive and cannot read -R discs.
There are also RW discs which allow multi-sessions... if a session is not closed, you may not be able to read the disc on a different drive... and, now this is a guess, but an educated one, you may need the NERO software to finalize the session.
If you Right-Click on the CD-Rom Drive in My Computer, it should tell you the file system and session info... make sure the file system is NTFS or FAT
