I like them both... although the sprinkling of stars on the night one adds that certain cool touch. Maybe you could do a soft, subtle cloud effect on the daytime one? So that the intensity of the red/orange/yellow still comes through... just my 2 cents.
I don't have 20" monitors but I worked off of my 19" and laptop widescreen for a long time and loved it! You can put up your design ideas on one side and your artsy-fartsy program of choice on the other side, and freely go back & forth. [sigh] I miss my monitors...
