True, but after looking through the gallery, the vast majority of users here are not graphics professionals and a huge chunk of members really do need to improve their skills. Most people use forums such as these to increase their skills and this sort of thread is the way to go about it.
People do not improve their skills by creating work just for themselves like the ever popular 'sig-banners'. Constantly challenging yourself makes a designer design better. If people hate design they should simply not be designing in the first place.
But if you read the thread, you'll find it's not asking for commercial work, but personal experiments following a very simple guide thus not limiting creative freedom.

To be frank, when expalining to people on the internet you have to explain from all angles possible, as there's always someone out there who has no idea what you're talking about. Considering how many people in the community with different skill levels and experience, you have to go into detail in order for them all to grasp the idea, instead of wondering what to do. I could of quite easy just posted an image and left it at that, but I tried to make it slightly 'fun' for the reader.

Don't be so sure.
When I used to post here before, the forum community was crying out for a change to the 'Battles' system as people kept missing out on them. They also wanted a community project. Now that I returned to the forum, I thought this would be the perfect soluation for all those people doing the complaining...how wrong I was lol I should of really not wasted my time trying to help out.
What annoys me more is that this style of project works wonders on other communities and is one of the most popular creative sessions carried out by professional designers, yet gains negative feedback from BioRUST lol very odd indeed.
But to leave this post on a high, I recommend that you use #F5F5F0 on your signature background, rather than #FFFFFF, it would make your sig 'jump out' more.
