Designers don't design what they want to design 24/7 so it's up to them to practise turning something from someone else into something what they consider visually better and creativitly better. If you find this thread lacks imagination is because you lack the imagination and effort to turn it into something you find appealing.

maybe... but it's for the exact reason that I have to design crap other people throughout my workweek, I do not want to spend my spare time doing the same thing. If I'm going to create something, it's going to be on my own inspirations and interests and not an exercise to recreate my work environment.
I think the idea of the "exercise" is a good one, but for starters, It took me about 10 tries before I actually got through your first post and to be honest, I've still never read through it all.
