Well there are ways to sharpen the brush image, either within the brush menu itself or many of the filters will do it for you, besides the sharpness filter.
The place I always start to look is DeViant Art. An amazing art site of creativity and brushes shapes etc. Google brought up loads of sites for shapes, but here is the link for shapes in DeViant art and my search within it
