I need information about 3d formats

Hi all!

I am a PhD student in VR who needs to gain better understanding for all 3d formats that are available today. The reason for this is that I am trying to take a model from 3dsmax6 to EON studio 5.

Any suggestion on where I can find a list with descriptions of the most common 3d formats of today? What I need to understand is for example if the format preserves UV coordinates, lights etc.

Thanks in advance!

Two most common file formats are .3ds and .dxf . Your program should be able to import at least one of these types.

Send a message via MSN to Milkdrop
.dxf files can use nurbs meshes and curves,
.3ds is a polygon only format. .3ds is a universal format used by most apps so is dxf.
