Free 3d Modellers

I shall update this list every single time i find a little gem. This thread is in the hope that i can get some more poeple interested in learning 3d.

this is going to be some huge list by the time i am finishe with this one. Please feel free to give me a -1 to userrating to compliment this suprise.

Modellers
Art of illusion:
http://www.artofillusion.org/

This is a pretty terrible name given to a superb 3d modeller. I cannot beleive that i stumbled across this one. It supports splines and all the usual features. It render engine is capable of some okay results.

8/10, check it out. I shall post a new one each night!

*new*
Moonlight 3d
okay this thing isn't amazing. It is still deep in development. In the future it shall aparently be a fully functional nubs tool kit!. Nurbs is defiantly my favorite way to model objects, in fact it is the only way i know how to model objects. This thing has an awesome render engine which i think is quite capable.
7/10, the futures bright for this little app.

*another newie*
Aztec
this one has support for mesh based modelling techniques, so my guess is, that it supports NURBS. Hey it is a pretty cool bit of kit when i tried it out just now. Interface is a bit junky but hey im used to one of the most complex interfaces around. Have a lookie.
8/10

*new*
Anim8or
Oooh i like this one. It is definatly the best freebie moddeller i have stumbled across. It is nice and simple. The only hting that lets this program down is the lack of user interactivity such as no sticky notes when you move the mouse over a button.
9/10, get this one of you want to start some 3d work. It is really nice the render engine is okay but it should do.

*new*
wings
This is pretty much alogn with blender the most common free 3d modeller. The mesh based tools are excellent. There is no render engine though so you shall have to use some thing like povray to render your images.
9/10, its let down by having no render but many apps dont have a render engine.

Render Engines
Pov-ray
This is a great render engine, you convert your model into a .txt file and let it rip inside this program. This thing is more of a programming langauge type interface but it can produce some wonderful results.

Odds and ends

Terragen
This program creates photoreal landscapes with ease. I wouldn't really wouldn't say this is a 3d modeller i would more like cal it a 3d generator. It is very fun and can achive photreal results. it is great to use a back drops for 3d models.
9/10

Daz 3d Studio
looking for a free alternative to poser? look no further. This thing is great. IT is pretty nice and easy to use. It isn't as feature rich as pose and i would only consider this app to be used as a toy, or just for fun.
8/10

Thanks 5-0.

I have to admit you have sparked my interest in 3-D modeling. A free program is just the tool to get me started....it will be nice to play around with.

Thanks again 5-0. Negative kudos to you (when I can give you a rating again...must spread the wealth first.)

Lexi

Will be fun to try it out, indeed. I´m looking forward to learning, which will fail, because it will. Murphy´s law, lol Will give it a go, though.

Downloaded, ran, made my first ever 3D-work (that is, my first ever 3D-work that doesen´t look like a 76 million poly mushroom...)!
Lo and behold!
Now, do remember I never read any documentation, tried anything real before, had any textures or anything. I made this! In Aol 1.7! Without help! In like 15 minutes! Yay! *beaming with pride*

Ok, you can crack down on me now

My first attempt at 3D rendering featured the infamous reflective balls scenario in POVray...

hehe, my first attempt was using a free copy of realsoft 4.5se. It was such a laugh just to figure out what rendering was, lol. I shall post another proggy tomorrow, if i have the chance.

Im one of these people that never chnaged 3d modeller etc. I just stuck with what i had until i could afford a student copy of realsoft 4.5. Im still waitng for my copy of v5 to arrive.

lol, thanks.
I got it on my PC now, and it's ten times easier to navigate than on that Mac. Hmm, maybe because I have a proper mouse here, and not a huge transparent plastic BUTTON with a red light underneath it... Grmbl...
Anyhow, cheers, 5-0. A real gem!

You definately do that 5-0. I would never have attempted 3D modeling if it weren't for your postings. I like to learn and you are helping in expanding my horizons with this 3D modeling. Thanks

Yeah its my aim to get people to broaden their graphic horizons. I think its about time i started to give out the help that people gave me, to get into different types of graphic design.

I shall find some more unusual 3d modelling programs.

It might be just my imagination.... but isn't blender a free and fairly good 3d app?
