Which programs?
I know people use an array of programs including - 3d Studios Max, Bryce, Cinema 4d and plenty more.
Has anyone tried any of these? Do you like it? It is easy to learn?
I've been thinking about it, but I'd like to get better in Photoshop. I'm debating on whether I should expand my horizons.

Well, I personally use 3DSMax with general modelling work, and Bryce for abstracts (because its really good at them). 3DSMAX itself is very very powerful, but its interface is not very intuitive, so initially you are up against a learning brick wall. Once you pass that, though, you'll be able to do some pretty nifty stuff. Bryce, on the other hand, is far easier to use, but lacks the sheer power of 3DSMAX (something surely reflected in the variation of the price of the two applications). I'd personally try both and see what you can come up with....
PS. Just as a side-point, you can download Maya learning edition totally free of charge. It puts big watermarks everywhere, but still gives you a good idea what its like to design in 3D. Maya itself is by far the flagship 3D product - ludicrously expensive, extremely powerful, and bloody hard to use...

3DSM really has the computer/gaming scene on lock, Maya being the movie thing. Not that both can't do either or, its jsut the basis. Bryce I heard is frustrating and not very powerful. I've been on the hunt for 3DSM for like 3 months, can NEVER get my hands on it, oh do I wish I could. I want the newest version though.

I would like 3dsm myself to play with.. once again it seems that it does not to leak itself to the general public.. so I must wait patiently

i think 3dsmax is complete s**t, waste of time and money. Stick with maya. Absolutaly awesome progrqam, i use realsoft 4.5, it is so easy to use. It is better than 3dsmax for simplicity.
bryce is also a waste of time.
EDIT: Had to work out a word.. no biggie - Digital

I think the lot of you are mad!
Paying for software? Whatever next... When I get time I'll make a list of the best free and/or open source software on the Tech Talk board.
Have a gander at Blender - the best 3D graphics program I've ever seen. Oh, and it's free.

lol.. Hornet, you are just realizing this?
I tried Blender, never could make anything with it that was worth while, and yes, it is free.

Bah, you lot aren't hardcore enough! I once made a complex image out of POVray. It looked pants and took 8hrs to render, but thats beyond the point...

blender is more for linux in my opinion. i do like it, but i think there are much better free 3d modellers such as anim8or. You can make some full length films out of the proggy.
Realsoft is just so fun in my opinion, it rocks for everything even realistic simulations.

I only discovered Blender because it was mentioned on a Knoppix cd - I intend to have a proper hunt around for others.

Trust me - if I want a particular piece of software, I usually get it. I'm just not daft enough to publicise it.
Thanks for the offer though, if it was aimed at me.
