Help with cutting edges in Blender

Hi, I am working on the Joan Of Arc tutorial using Blender. I need to know how to cut lines like this:

I tried using subdivision and then deleting unnessisary edges, but sometimes it doesnt delete and other times it somehow deletes the face. If anyone can help me it would be appriciated thanks.

you can't get that exact loop as Blender doesn't support N-Gons (Faces with more than 4 vertices) The easiest way to do it would be to have a loop going all the way down the mesh, to do this press [ctrl]+[r] then highlight the edge you want and it will show you an example of where it will go. Click once at you will be able to move it along the edge, click again to confirm
