[3dsmax5] UVW Mapping(I think)

Hi,

Does anybody know how this works exactly. I want to make an image in photoshop and skin a object in 3dsmax.

I've tried to follow some tuts I found, but they were for more advanced users and they didn't explain it in detail.

So if anyone knows how to do it and is willing to take the time to explain it I would be extremely greatful.

Thanx

I suggest asking 5-0. He's really good in 3D Studios Max, have you seen his art? Just PM (private message) him the URL for this topic so he can post. I want to know what he has to say, plus this can be used for future reference.

I was already waiting for him to notice this topic

But I had to post this instead of pm'ing him for, as you said, the future reference. But I will give it a try.

Well... For school I need to create a product and a presentation about it. And I wanted to make it in 3d, because that hasn't been done in my class yet (And I want to be original).

So I want to create the skin in photoshop and apply it to the object in 3ds. It's going to be a NGon(that's what they call it in 3ds), a thing with 8 points. I think in need to create the object first, apply that UVW Mapping to it. Texture the map in PS and then apply to the object again.

BUT!!!

If it is easier to do in realsoft, then you can explain me how to do it in there. I downloaded the demo of their site and I hope this is easier to do then in 3ds max. I haven't learned much at school about 3ds Max.

Thnx in advance.

well if you have realsoft it is simple. just right click and go to OBJECT PROPERTIES, once inside the menu go to "COL" then at the bottom of the menu there shall be a box to put the texture file names into. It is very easy. There are also tools to manipulate the texture. You are gonna have to make this texture in photoshop, im not even good enough yet to 3d paint in realsoft (very hard!). You can also set surface effects. Etc. If you look at my latest lamborghnini (uploaded tonight, rendering now) you shall see some texture mapping used there on the body work.

If you have any problems my email is: thegreatgeek@hotmail.com

i also have msn messenger if you want to talk to me about it. Hope that helped.

oh yeah and SUBJECT i have only used 3dsmax on one of my works, i think it was the one in the ecstacy series (im gonna carry on with it, ive just had exams). I dont like it so much, prefer lightwave and realsoft.

Oh, I thought you were experienced with it. The design was so good, I thought you've been using it for a while.

3dsmax i think is very simple to texture an object as well. It comes with a decent manual so just use the tutorials there.
