Well I know a very basic sollution for that one, if you put <center> </center> tags around youre body it should be put in the middle of the site.
Then you should turn the first <body> tag in an<body bg="000000#"> tag(right notjustgrapics?) So you can chage the color of the background. Black always works for me, but maybe another color works better for you.....
Hope it helps, and the center tags aren't really newish.....there is a better way to do it but I forgot.
