But then again Im 38 years old, I would hate to say anything that might discourage a 15 year olds artistic development, perhaps if we knew when posting a comment if the image was created by a juniour member, or even just to know the members experience level would help feel more comfortable knowing what an appropriate comment might be.
Hi Tammy,
Some very good points you make there. I have to admit that I don't quite understand the obsession that some people have about getting comments on their work. When I post my stuff in the Gallery, I don't do it thinking "Let's see how many comments I can get for THIS!" Sure, praise is great and positive criticism is even better, but if someone posts a comment like "Nice job" just to get some more Biocredits, what's the value of that?
If I like an image, and can isolate the reason why, then I'll make a comment to that effect. If I can see ways in which an image could be improved, then I'll offer some suggestions. If I don't like an image at all, I'll most likely not post a comment, because I recognise that art is probably the most subjective thing there is and everyone can't like everything. However, just because I don't offer a comment doesn't mean I don't like a piece of work - I very rarely comment on work in areas that either doesn't interest me (like manga) or where I have no knowledge or experience (such as 3D modelling). This doesn't mean that I dislike the work - I just don't feel qualified to make a meaningful comment.
The point you make about encouraging younger members is very true. My daughter (who's 16) is an excellent artist (much better than me) but she's also very sensitive to criticism so I always try to encourage her as much as possible. I'm sure that as she matures she will become more confident in her abilities and will be able to benefit from positive criticism and resist negative criticism. It's true that we don't always know the age or experience level of contributors here, but if we all try to offer meaningful, helpful, constructive comments it will benefit all members, regardless of age or experience.

Sorry for writing a novel. I'll go now...
