It's the leading desktop publishing prog. Only Adobe InDesign really comes close to competing with QuarkXPress.

If you're looking to get into design, either through college/uni, or into design freelance/studio, it's certainly a prog to pick up when you can get it for free. Other than Photoshop and Illustrator skills and experience, designers who are looking to go into print will need to know how to use QuarkXPress and InDesign, as those two are the main programs designers and printers use for finalising work and getting everything prepared for print.

You can create anything from business cards, posters, to packaging, brochures and magazines with it.
