Don't forget about Acrobat. If you want to be a professional graphic designer, you will need to be able to use Acrobat too.

Most design companies will expect you to know not only Adobe and Macromedia programs, but Quark and Corel too. The more programs you are able to use the more chance you have of getting a job afterwards.

This may not apply to Americans as much as us Brits, but the average study time for a design student is one year foundation (or two year GNVQ adavanced) then 2-4 years additional time spent doing a HND or BA Hons Degree.
