I have no experience with icongold.com but I have grabbed free stuff from
Leo's Icon Archive - 10,000+ free icons, desktop icons, clip art, cartoons, buttons before.
You can also get some real nice icons from
Pixelgirl Presents Free Icons, Desktops and Gallery Shop!

With so many free icons available, i'd never pay $39.00 - worst case (or best case maybe) i'd just design my own.
What do you need the icons for? There are a lot of really talented designers here who might enjoy taking a stab at creating what you need...
It might even make an interesting battle...
